Ingrid Flaherty and George Cohen!

Ingrid Flaherty
in Carmen
Ingrid Flaherty was delighted to make her Charlottesville Opera debut this summer in the chorus of Carmen. A recent graduate of Monticello High School, she sang with the Monticello Choirs, performed as a vocal soloist with the school’s Jazz Band and Orchestra, played saxophone with the Jazz and Steel Bands, and appeared in school productions of Cry-Baby (2023) and High School Musical (2024).

Ingrid was selected for All-Virginia Chorus throughout high school and participated in both the VMEA Senior Honor Choir and the ACDA National Honor Choir during her senior year. This past winter, she received high marks in the Virginia level of the NATS National Student Auditions and advanced to the regional level. In 2024, she was a voice student at the Virginia Summer Governor’s School for Visual and Performing Arts at Radford University.

An active musician beyond school, Ingrid sings with the University Baptist Church Sanctuary Choir and youth choir, Voces Laetae. She is also a member of the Oratorio Society of Virginia and recently sang in their performance of Bach’s Mass in B Minor at Old Cabell Hall at the University of Virginia.
Equally passionate about conducting, Ingrid has had opportunities to direct both the Monticello and University Baptist Church choirs, and most recently conducted Monticello’s 2025 production of Chicago. This fall, she will attend the Blair School of Music at Vanderbilt University to pursue a Bachelor of Music, with focused study in vocal performance, conducting, and Classics.

George Cohen
in The Pirates of Penzance
George Cohen was thrilled to return to the stage following a long hiatus, having recently appeared as Chester in The Phantom of the Opry (2024) and Merriman in The Importance of Being Earnest (2023) with Black Box Theater.
While in law and graduate school, he performed in numerous Gilbert and Sullivan productions with the University of Pennsylvania Law School Light Opera Company, with favorite roles including Major Murgatroyd in Patience, the Sergeant of Police in The Pirates of Penzance, Dick Deadeye in H.M.S. Pinafore, King Gama in Princess Ida, and Ko-ko in The Mikado.

As an undergraduate at Yale, George performed in Fiddler on the Roof (Avram), 1776 (Roger Sherman), The Roar of the Greasepaint—the Smell of the Crowd (Urchin), and Spring Awakening (Georg) at the Yale Repertory Theatre. His stage journey began as the Artful Dodger in Oliver!— directed by Carole King’s mother.
A professor at the University of Virginia School of Law, George has maintained a lifelong love of singing. He serves as a High Holidays cantor and has often performed as King Achashverosh in the Purim Spiels at Congregation Beth Israel. He also plays clarinet with the Albemarle County Concert Band.
