The Singing Straw®
A favorite tool in my studio! The Singing Straw helps singers warm up efficiently, reduce vocal fatigue, and build healthy habits through straw phonation. I recommend the set comes with three different straw sizes, allowing you to adjust resistance as your voice grows and changes.

I use it regularly myself and recommend it to students of all levels.

Incentive Spirometer
This tool helps singers build lung capacity, breath awareness, and control by measuring how much air you can inhale. As you breathe in through the mouthpiece, the piston rises to show your air intake volume. Over time, practicing with this type of spirometer can strengthen your inhalation muscles and improve your ability to take a deep, relaxed breath—essential for singing long phrases with supported tone.

💡 I recommend a high-capacity spirometer (5000 ml) for high school students through adults, and a 1000–2000 ml model for younger students. Try incorporating it into your daily warm-up to train slow, steady inhalation and increase breath stamina.

Flow-Oriented Spirometer
Unlike the volume-based version, a flow-oriented spirometer helps train the speed and consistency of your breath. As you inhale, lightweight balls or discs rise and stay suspended, offering visual feedback on how smooth and even your airflow is. This tool is especially useful for singers who want to improve breath coordination, quick intake, and airflow stability for speech-like singing or fast passages.

💡 Use it to challenge your breath control and focus on keeping the balls suspended with steady airflow.
