Led by Ken Wayne and Amelia Fe Camacho, this choral intensive is designed for singers who want to improve their skills at listening for, hearing, and holding choral harmonies. We will do this through workshopping songs and choral arrangements from musical theatre, with the goal that participants will be able to apply their improved skills in future stage productions. The intensive is not designed for people who have never sung before, but is suitable for singers of varying abilities as long as they can match and hold pitch. The fee is $25 and will include copies of all the choral pieces for the participants to keep.

The choral intensive sessions include six structured rehearsals leading up to a free showcase on October 3 for friends and family. Because choirs rely so heavily on accurate blend and balance, participants are required to be at all six class sessions. (Think of it like going into tech week without all members of the cast - it’s just too difficult to create a whole unified production.)

In addition to the required rehearsal time each week, Ken and Amelia will lead optional group lessons before and after rehearsal that participants may attend based on their need and availability. Before choral rehearsals, Amelia will lead lessons focused on exercises designed to help singers better understand, explore, and strengthen their voices. Topics will include improving breath control, expanding vocal range, navigating the vocal break, singing in different styles, and developing healthy vocal habits for both speaking and singing. After choral rehearsals, Ken will lead lessons in music theory, helping singers to better read music and apply musical knowledge to the rehearsal process (ie. reading notes, rhythms, chords, learning solfège, etc.). By the beginning of rehearsals, a complete schedule of topics will be given and participants can arrange to attend any or all of the lessons they feel would be beneficial to them.

Spots for this choral intensive are limited and will be filled based on the needs of achieving the appropriate balance of voice parts. Participants must be rising juniors in high school or older. For those who are unable to participate (whether due to scheduling conflicts or lack of spots), you will be able to audit/observe all rehearsals and group lessons.

TO REGISTER: Please complete the Google form at the link below BY AUGUST 1, making sure to include all necessary information. Once you have completed this, you will be sent a link to submit a deposit payment of $10, as well as an additional questionnaire to help us determine what topics would be most beneficial for group lessons, and to help determine the size and balance of the choir. Note that registering via the Google form does NOT guarantee you a participant slot in the intensive. You will hear no later than August 5 if you have been selected to participate or audit the classes. If you are selected to be a participant, you’ll be sent an additional payment link to collect the $15 balance of your fee.
